Mecosta County
General Hospital (MCGH) has always considered patient safety as an
important priority within our mission of providing quality healthcare
to the community we serve. Patient safety efforts are hospital-wide
& multidisplinary to create an infrastructure within our hospital
culture to provide quality care & the prevention of medical errors.
Efforts to meet this goal at MCGH involve: Standard Practices and
Process Improvement Teams, such as the use of Pyxis system for medication
administration, Failure Mode Analysis for administration of emergency
medications adult/pediatric team, Safe Medication Practice team, &
pharmacy computerization of the medication administration record.
Enhanced communication: involving patients, family, & hospital
staff through feedback interviews and surveys. Education on patient
safety for all staff, new & revised processes & policies such
Non-Punitive reporting, Notification of Adverse outcomes, MCGH Patient
Safety Plan, MCGH Safe Medication Practice Plan, & a Safe Medication
Practice Policy.
