Comments about patient safety activities: Huron Valley Sinai Hospital (HVSH) has developed an on-line incident reporting for non-punitive reporting of real and potential patient safety issues. Pharmacy has worked together with Nursing to identify look-alike and sound-alike medications and has 24 hour pharmacy coverage to better service our customers. A Patient Safety Officer oversees all Patient Safety Initiatives. |
|
Comments about Intensive Care Unit Physician Staffing: Though we have 24 hour physician coverage in the ICU, we are in the process of recruiting an Internsivist to provide specialized care and expanded coverage for patients requiring Intensive levels of care. We expert this service to be in place by the end of the 2002 calendar year. |
|
Comments about Infants with Congenital Anomalies: HVHS has a strong relationship with Children's Hospital of Michigan (CHM), an affliate hospital within the DMC. Though we have a Complete Care Nursery and Neonatologist to provide around the clock care to critical and premature infants, we do transfer extreme cases to CHM for Intensive Care services. |

Comments about Percutaneous Coronary Interventions: HVSH Cardiologist perform an average of 200 "diagnostic" cardiac catherizations per year. These procedures are diagnostic, not interventional and are therefore, not reflected in this category. |

Comments about Open Heart Surgery: While "Open Heart Surgery" as it is commonly known, is not preformed at HVSH, we are capable and do perform surgery on the heart in cases of extreme need such, as pericardotomy. Our mortality rate with these procedures is extremely low. |
