Michigan Health & Safety Coalition Consumer Report

Introduction

The Michigan Health and Safety Coalition’s goal is to improve the safety of health care for Michigan residents. To advance this goal, we began a project in December 2001 that produced hospital guidelines for patient treatment for seven serious medical conditions and care in the intensive care unit.

All Michigan hospitals were invited to respond to a survey about their activities in the eight treatment areas of study. We then compared their responses to coalition guidelines, and this consumer report presents the results for each of the 114 hospitals that responded. This consumer report also tells you the number of each procedure the hospital has done and compares it to the coalition’s recommended volume.

The hospitals are listed alphabetically and are grouped by region. You can also view the survey results for each treatment area.

Our guidelines are not standards of care and will change as new scientific developments are made. We are publishing these reports to give consumers one more factor they can consider when needing treatment.
